An Introduction to S.V. Stardancer

We first met Stardancer in the Louisiade Archipelago, Papua New Guinea, and sailed in company with her for a while. We knew about the high reputation of the GibSea/Dufour 472 and we really liked her appearance and fast performance coupled with space and comfort. But we had a boat, a steel 40 footer which we sailed to South East Asia in 2012 where we sold her. She had been built for cold weather sailing and living. This time we were searching for a lighter displacement boat, one that was a fast comfortable passage maker as well as comfortable to live on at anchor, with more open space and good ventilation.

We looked and looked, then one day, idly scrolling down the lists we saw ‘Stardancer’ for sale.  ‘She would really suit me,’ I said to Christian, ‘a shame it is just out of our price range’.  Not deterred, Christian got in touch with Andrew and long story short, he flew to Gosford NSW Australia to have a serious in depth look at her.

Next thing I knew I was flying out to meet him and we were dashing off to buy duvets and pots and pans and cutlery! We had fun getting to know her. The previous owner had told us the auto pilot was ‘a bit tricky’. Well we ended up hand steering all night around Fraser Island in bad weather. Upon reaching Bundaberg after a welcome rest we bought a new autopilot.

In Darwin we joined the rally to Malaysia and sailed through Indonesia for the second time, all with no problems and loads of fun. We have owned Stardancer for seven years now and have continually upgraded and improved her. She has been a wonderful sailboat giving us hundreds of happy memories, across thousands of nautical miles, sailing and socialising.

She is a boat for the discerning sailor, equipped to cross oceans safely and swiftly while also providing a comfortable home at anchor. We shall be very sad to see her go, but now in our seventies we intend to do more land travel, and who knows, maybe even build a house.

Price on request.

History:

Stardancer is a very comfortable fast cruising passage maker. She is rigged for easy single or double handed passages. She has cruised up and down the East and along the North coasts of Australia multiple times. Stardancer has visited many Pacific Islands, and has explored South East Asia twice.

Stardancer has four double cabins, two forward and two aft, and can sleep eight. She has two heads and one shower. An exterior shower is located on the cut away scoop stern.

The saloon, galley and navigation stations are central and very spacious.

Stardancer is a New Zealand registered vessel and was previously an Australian registered vessel, and therefore had tax paid in Australia.

We knew ‘Stardancer’ very well and bought her in Sydney in March 2013. We sold ‘Caesura’, our previous boat, after having been ten years cruising full time in the Pacific and South East Asia, starting from New Zealand.

Over the last 15 years plus, Gina’s has had many articles published in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the USA about our wonderful experiences. Gina has written a book which has been published in the USA, “Blue Water Women”.
